Utah Policy Daily has an interesting post up today on the DSCC's great campaign strategy for 2010. Greg Sargent of The Plum Line has an interesting bit of strategy from Senate Democrats on how they’ll play healthcare reform in 2010. They want to force Republicans to say whether they support a full repeal of the bill, assuming it has passed.
Is the DSCC so deluded as to think that a bill that they had to BRIBE MEMBERS TO VOTE for would be that great of a base for an entire campaign to be run on? Especially given how universally unpopular this bill is with independents? ... A new Quinnipiac poll shows that American voters “mostly disapprove” of the healthcare reform plan by a 53-36 percent margin.
Favorable views of healthcare reform mostly break along partisan lines, but independents join Republicans in opposing the plan. I take the UPD data one step better. The RCP AVERAGE shows that 12.6% of all Americans disapprove of the bills that are running through Congress! Quinnipiac is simply the latest in a long string of polls that show the public's displeasure with the bills! "Forcing" your opponents to run against a highly unpopular bill is just plain NUTS. All I can say, if the DSCC is so hell bent on forcing Republicans to run on "repealing" the bill is BRING IT ON! It's obvious you people need (and want) to get out of DC and we will be more than happy to make it happen for you. |
