Whose Voices?
Paul Rolly and the SLTrib are continuing their long busted meme that the UT GOP does not listen to women's voices.....
It is fitting that a group of influential women concerned that Utah’s political system disenfranchises them and millions of other voters decided to talk over possible solutions at a club they once were excluded from joining because of their sex.
The group of highly successful women, most of them self-described moderate Republicans, held their organizational meeting recently at the Alta Club, which barred women from joining until the 1980s. Their issue now is Utah’s candidate selection process that they believe keeps the majority of Utahns from deciding who will represent them as elected officials.
The women were motivated mostly by the Utah Republican Party Convention’s rejection of the candidacy of three-term Sen. Bob Bennett, R-Utah.
Never mind, of course, that there were plenty of CONSERVATIVE women at the GOP State convention (including my precinct delegate). No that doesn't fit the meme....
One has to wonder where these "influential women" were at caucus time? Were they at their caucuses? If they were did they run for delegate seats? If they won and lost isn't this just a case of sour grapes? Of course Rolly didn't ask any of these questions because (again) those questions don't fit the meme!
Then there is this undeniable fact that Rolly ignores.
A majority of Wyoming, Mississippi, and Utah residents identified as conservative rather than moderate or liberal during the first half of 2010, making these the most politically conservative states in the U.S. The District of Columbia had the greatest percentage of liberals, along with four New England states: Rhode Island, Connecticut, Vermont, and Massachusetts.
This is something that anyone who was at the precinct caucuses saw first hand.
So here is Paul Rolly echoing the mewlings of a bunch of moderates - who are in the minority of the Utah GOP at this time - trying to make the claim that because their moderate voices were not heard that women as a whole were not heard? Well here is a hot news flash for Mr. Rolly and the ladies of the Alta Club.....I - along with a multitude of other CONSERVATIVE women in Utah had our voices heard loud and clear
