After 8 years of listening to the left cluck "Oh Gawd can you believe how dumb Bush is?  He can't even pronounce 'nuclear' right!" you knew this was going to get commented on.....

President Obama, speaking at this year's National Day of Prayer Breakfast proceeded to tell this little anecdote.

"...one such translator was an American of Haitian decent, representative of the extraordinary work that our men and women in uniform do all around the world, Navy 'Corpse-man' Christian Bouchard...and lying on a gurnee aboard the U.S.N.S. Comfort, a woman asked Christopher(sic) 'where do you come from?  What Country?  After my operation I will pray for that country.' and in Creole 'Corpse-man' Bouchard responded...the United States of America"

When I first heard the clip, the only thing I noticed was the "corpse-man" but in translating this down I caught another mistake - when the President first starts the anectode "Corpse-man" Bouchard's first name was "Christian" and then later on it is "Christopher".

Now Allahpundit over at Hot Air is feeling generous today and speculates that this may have been the error of some poor junior staffer.

I can’t believe that a guy with a Harvard Law degree wouldn’t know how to pronounce “corps,” so I’m guessing some dumb staffer in charge of TOTUS decided to try to “help him out” by typing the phonetic pronunciation — incorrectly — into the machine. And in true Ron Burgundy fashion, O read it as is right off the ‘prompter.

If President Bush's mispronunciation of nuclear was indicative of his intelligence, does the same hold here for a President who pronounces the word "corpsman" (coreman) as "corpse-man"?
