How Many More?

One of the many arguments against abortion is the question "how many potential presidents, congresspeople, scientists, business and community leaders were aborted since the Roe v. Wade decision?"  It is a valid question that needs to be asked - like the decision or not. Which leads us to the latest Super Bowl "controversy" - no not another "wardrobe malfunction" and not another tasteless Go Daddy ad with well endowed women nearly falling out of their clothing.  The latest Super Bowl controversy is over an ad which features former University of Florida quarterback Tim Tebow.

He's not even in the NFL yet, but former University of Florida quarterback Tim Tebow is making a starring appearance at the 2010 Super Bowl in Miami.

While the Indianapolis Colts' Peyton Manning and the New Orleans Saints' Drew Brees will be the quarterbacks on the field, the Heisman Trophy-winning college star will appear with his mother, Pam, on TV in an ad for the pro-life Christian group Focus on the Family that will air during the game.

The 30-second ad's theme is "Celebrate Family, Celebrate Life" and a Focus on the Family press release said the Tebows agreed to the ad because "the issue of life is one they feel strongly about." As a result, the ad is widely expected to focus on Mrs. Tebow's pregnancy with Tim, when she was encouraged by doctors to abort him.

For those that don't know it, here is Pam Tebow's story...

The doctor tending to the mother of University of Florida’s Heisman trophy-winning quarterback Tim Tebow advised her to kill him. Medication used to treat dysentery caused placental abruption. The doctor thought the baby would be stillborn, anyway, but Tebow’s mother chose to give him a chance to live.

Again - with the vast majority of abortions done because the mother is inconvenienced (and I will link to those stats yet again for the benefit of my progressive readers) one does have to wonder how many brilliant lives were snuffed out because of that inconvenience.

Logical Lady La Shawn Barber (whom I absolutely ADORE) had this to say in the closing of her post on the subject (linked above).

This country needs more young Christian men like Tebow, men who stand for what’s right and refuse to cave to peer pressure. Young people struggling to live the Christian life (yes, Christians do struggle!) could use more high-profile Christians bucking the system and risking ridicule for God’s glory.

And that is a sentiment that I concur with 100%.  Christians, especially Christian young men, do need to see positive role models like Tim Tebow.  Doing the right thing is not easy in a world where doing the wrong thing is so easily excused.  I think Jim Geraghty said it best on Twitter this morning when he tweeted...

We've seen GoDaddy and endless crass Super Bowl ads, but "Isn't it great Tim Tebow wasn't aborted" crosses a line, apparently.

But then again Jim, those who follow Christ understand (or should understand) that this is exactly what we can expect when we take a stand like this.  Because the world simply refuses to understand that there IS right and wrong and that killing the unborn is so very, very wrong.
