Nanny Senator Says You Are Too Dumb
That is pretty much the gist of the legislation that State Senator Pat Jones is proposing...
Five years after she pushed to require minors to get parental consent before using tanning beds, Sen. Patricia Jones, D-Holladay, wants to ban underage tans altogether.
She said Friday she will draft legislation that would ban the use of commercial tanning beds by minors. If lawmakers agree, Utah would join California, which became the first state to outlaw tanning for minors, effective as of Jan. 1...
“They want to go to prom and have a tan not realizing the health ramifications,” Jones said.
Never mind that there is a plethora of information out there...information that you don't even have to look for to find....Nanny Senator wants to protect you from a legal activity. Never mind that there is already a law in place....
Utah’s current law, passed in 2007, requires parents to annually sign a consent form that includes information about the health risks of tanning. The form also specifies the number of times the teen can tan each year. But the law was not enforced, Jones said. In a limited review of the practices of indoor tanning salons in Salt Lake County, the University of Utah department of dermatology found teens could easily tan without parental consent.
Here's a radical though for your Nanny Senator....ENFORCE.THE.EXISTING.LAW! How hard of a concept is that to grasp? Oh but wait Mom and Dad...it gets better. You see Nanny Senator wants to not only control what your almost adult age child can do...oh no - she wants to control you too!
Jones had considered tightening the law by requiring parents or guardians to attend each tanning session.
But she thought better of that because you are voters and you might vote Nanny Senator out of power...better to attack kids that can't vote.
I have a radical thought for Nanny Senators everywhere - if you really, firmly believe that this activity (or any other legal activity like say SMOKING) is really that dangerous then make it illegal. Just outright outlaw it!
But we know you won't do that. You are too addicted to do it....to addicted to the power that you know you would lose if you did it. Too addicted to the money (campaign cash). Too addicted to the sense of importance that comes from writing legislation that dictates what we the people can and can not do. And too addicted to the tax dollars that come in from these legal activities.
You want to stand on principle Sen. Jones. Propose an out right ban on tanning beds in the state of Utah. Make the ENTIRE INDUSTRY illegal. Go ahead and do it. I dare you.
